Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte gives the squad an off day after victory against Leeds United
After the victory against Leeds United (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte revealed that he would give one day’s holiday to the squad.
The Italian manager took over the Lilywhites at the start of the month and has worked hard over the weeks. While his last Premier League game in charge resulted in a 0-0 draw against Everton, the North Londoners finally won their first match under Conte against Leeds United on Sunday.
The Peacocks had a stronghold in the first half and Daniel James put the visitors in front with a composed finish. The Lilywhites started the second half in fine fashion as they put the pressure on Leeds. Their attacking endeavour finally paid off when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg managed to equalise the game.
Sergio Reguilon was the first to respond to a heavily deflected Eric Dier free-kick which saw the Spaniard put the ball in the back of the net and Spurs in the lead. The second half saw the team pull up their socks as they came from behind to win the game in fine fashion.
Antonio Conte spoke about the schedule ahead and also highlighted the need to recover well in that period:
“Now we have to recover well. I gave them one day rest because I promised that if win the game that I give… to me one day rest, not to them! From Tuesday we start to prepare. On Thursday we have another important game.”
The North London club will now have their sights on their upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League fixture against NS Mura on Thursday. The European competition could be a great place for Conte to give the fringe players more opportunities to prove themselves.
The former Inter Milan manager also emphasized that he would rotate his squad for the upcoming fixtures:
“For sure I will do rotation. Because these players deserve to play and I want to see good answers from all the players.”
The Lilyhitwes have had a tricky start to the season so far but things seem to be getting better under Antonio Conte. While it may be too premature to make any statements so early in his tenure at N-17, the team looks much more threatening under the Italian.
