Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Erik Lamela getting nominated for FIFA Puskas award
According to the club’s official Twitter account, former Tottenham Hotspur player Erik Lamela is one of the nominees for the FIFA Puskas 2021 award for scoring a spectacular rabona-kick goal against Arsenal in March. Lamela left Tottenham after eight long years as he made the move to Sevilla in the summer of 2021. He was involved in a cash-plus-player swap that saw Spurs pay £21.6million plus his services to the La Liga club for young winger, Bryan Gil.
The Argentinian had made 257 appearances for Spurs and has scored 37 goals while assisting his teammates 47 times. He is also widely loved by fans and is regularly seen supporting his former team on social media.
Previously, he had won the 2020/21 Goal of the Season prize from the Premier League, BBC Match of the Day, the London Football Awards and an award from the club for the best goal of the season, voted by the supporters.
He has shown a knack for scoring this rarity having, previously scored against Asteras Tripolis in October 2014, where he scored a similar goal. Other nominees are Luis Diaz, Gauthier Hein, Valentino Lazaro, Riyad Mahrez, Sandra Owusu-Ansah, Vangelis Pavlidis, Daniela Sánchez, Patrik Schick, Mehdi Taremi and Caroline Weir.
Lamela might not be at Spurs anymore, but he has made us proud with this particular nomination. The winner of the award will be announced in a ceremony on January 17th, 2022.
