Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur eye Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic as Antonio Conte wants him
According to Sport1 (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Inter Milan forward Ivan Perisic as Antonio Conte has asked for his transfer. He has previously played under the Spurs manager during their time together at San Siro.
Perisic has played 42 matches under Conte and has five goals and assists across all competitions. He is currently involved in a contract negotiation over an extension as he will become a free agent next summer, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2022.
Even though he is 32 years of age, he could still offer quite a lot to the team, which is evident from his current season. He is still a regular at the club has been called up frequently by Simone Inzaghi. He also has three goals and two assists from 18 games this season, showing he has still years left in him.
A good signing in the making?
The Croation would add heaps of quality and would add to the depth of the team, which we are lacking currently. He usually plays on the left side of a 3-5-2 system which was also the case under the Italian.
We do have options on that side, like Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon, but it would help if the Inter forward adds to it, especially in the short term. Sessegnon still needs to mature and be more disciplined, especially under the Tottenham boss. That got highlighted during the game against NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League where he got sent off.
The Englishman could learn a lot from Perisic, who would also play down that wing. Reguilon, on the other hand, has taken a liking to his new role and has been great under the 52-year-old boss. He scored the winner in the comeback against Leeds United in the Premier League.
The Croatian forward would certainly end any worries that we may have had about our left flank. Football legend Johan Cruyff did say, “Choose the best player for every position, and you will end up not with a strong 11, but with 11 strong 1s.”

The Nerazzurri winger would be one of those signings who will be essential to complement the big-hitters of our squad. For the same reason, he does not seem like a priority but an option to boost our team to help us compete against the Premier League heavyweights.
Having played under Conte before, he could be suited to our new system if the Italian manager does want to reunite with him. With Ben Daies being trie dout at centre-back recently, it can be argued that a space has freed up in the left wing-back area.
