Oliver Skipp on how Antonio Conte helps Tottenham Hotspur with his touchline antics
Oliver Skipp has become a crucial player for Antonio Conte, and he has explained how the manager helps Tottenham Hotspur with his touchline antics during games. He featured against Norwich City, where his side won 3-0 in an important Premier League encounter.
The 21-year-old is yet to miss a game for Spurs under Conte, with the only exception being the one against Leeds United. He had picked up a suspension due to racking up five yellow cards ahead of the fixture.
Speaking in an interview in the club’s matchday programme (h/t Football.London), Skipp expressed how the Spurs coach helps the team with his passion on the touchline. The Italian is infamous for his passionate display during matches, which is also noticeable in his team’s performances.
“His record speaks for itself so, as a young player, you can only listen and take on as much information as you can. The attention to detail is amazing and you can see the passion from the touchline. That’s every day!
“As a player, you can only go with that. When, as a player, you see the boss on the touchline fighting for every ball, that can only help on the pitch. It’s been amazing to learn under him so far and I just look forward to him improving me further.”
Made for each other
The Englishman was once again influential as he was involved in the last goal scored by Son Heung-min against the Canaries. He also cleared the ball in a dangerous moment early in the game after Teemu Pukki’s shot was saved by Hugo Lloris. He could have got himself on the scoresheet just five minutes into the match when he drove through midfield to have a pop at goal.
The midfielder has arguably been one of the best players for us since the 52-year-old has taken over the managerial job. He had a slightly different role in recent games, being in an advanced position compared to his previous games.

We would need him to be at his usual best, if not an improved version, on Friday when we take on Stade Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Spurs need to match the result of Vitesse Arnhem against the group leaders to ensure we qualify for the knockout rounds.
And while we can moan about not making the Champions League or Europa League this season instead, the UECL is still major silverware that can end our trophy drought that began in 2008.
