“Top three” says Lucas Moura after scoring the wonder goal against Norwich City for Tottenham Hotspur
There could be no better way for Lucas Moura to open his Premier League goal tally as he scored a wonder goal for Tottenham Hotspur against Norwich City in their 3-0 victory. He opened the scoring for his side as they continued to look impressive under Antonio Conte.
The 29-year-old was often criticised for his lack of goal involvement as Spurs struggled to get going before Conte’s arrival. It continued even under the Italian as the team failed to create enough chances or generate a threat to test the opposition. However, it has changed over the past few games as they continued to build from the excellent second-half performance against Leeds United in the league.
Speaking in an interview with the club’s media (h/t Tottenham Hotspur official website), Moura placed his goal against the Canaries in the all-time top three of his career and was delighted to break the duck in the league this season. He even acknowledged the criticism he received from the supporters while claiming that helping the team is what matters to him.
“I always say, I’m not a ‘killer’ like Harry (Kane) or Sonny, they score a lot of goals, but I score some nice goals and I’m happy to help the team. I’m always working hard for the team, giving my best for the team and, of course, the feeling is always good when I score, especially when it’s a beautiful goal.”
“For sure, it’s in my top three. It’s my style, dribble, run with the ball and when I find the space, I shoot very quickly. Finally! For a striker, I know what people say, but I’m relaxed, I know that I work very hard, I give my best for the team, always, it doesn’t matter the game, and that’s most important for me.”
Something to build on
The Brazilian has featured in 19 matches this season but has just three goals and assists each in the process. He could have added to his assist tally if Harry Kane was more accurate with his chip from long distance against the Canaries, but we can’t hold that against him as it is a hard skill to execute. Criticism against the winger is valid to an extent, but as he conveyed, there are cases when you contribute heavily to the team even without scoring.

We hope that the Brazil international could build on his goal just like Son Heung-min has done recently. The South Korean was also on the scoresheet against Norwich after he netted against Brentford in the previous gameweek.
It is now down to Kane to get going in the Premier League. Once we have our front three fit and firing, Antonio Conte could lead this Spurs side to their first piece of silverware since 2008 this season itself.
