Antonio Conte opens up on whether games should be postponed as Covid hits Tottenham Hotspur and the EPL
Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte has opened up on whether the latest Covid-19 outbreak should lead to matches being postponed. Eight players and five staff members have so far tested positive at N17, which has resulted in the game against Stade Rennes in the UEFA Conference League getting rescheduled.
Premier League rivals, Chelsea and Leicester City have also been affected by Covid cases, which have seen concerns rising over this week. As a result, there have been rumblings on whether the league should postpone the games that are set to happen.
Speaking in the pre-match presser for the postponed Rennes game (h/t Football.London), Conte gave his thoughts on the current situation which is unfolding in England. He mentioned how he could only provide an insight on what is happening at Tottenham and not for other clubs.
“I don’t know honestly. I can talk about in this moment the problem we are having. I don’t know what is happening in other situations and I can speak about our situation and it is very strange and not good to live now this situation with all.”
Hitting a roadblock?
The new Covid 19 variant, Omicron, has alerted people across the world. At this moment, we are not sure if the new mutation is the one that affected the North London club, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
If things become worse from here on out, we would have to endure what we went through over the past year. That means football may have to come to an end or at least be regulated like it was before. It would be tough to take it in, but people’s lives matter the most in such circumstances.

Spurs could have requested the Premier League about postponing the clash against Brighton and Hove Albion by now. It remains to be seen whether it would go through, but a positive outcome is hoped as the situation has become worse.
The fixtures against Leicester and Liverpool could also be hanging by a thread if the situation does not improve by then. Since the league considers such cases on a game by game basis, we would not get an idea until the date draws close.
