Tottenham Hotspur suffer new Covid outbreak ahead of the Leicester City clash in Premier League
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a new Covid outbreak within their squad ahead of their clash against Leicester City in the Premier League. It would be a damning blow as it could lead to yet another game getting postponed this month.
Tottenham had a restricted training session on Sunday with the available players and were also due to get involved in another one on Monday. However, Antonio Conte could only have a few as 13 players in contention to be involved for the game on Thursday.
U-23s have also been affected by the coronavirus, which puts the club in a delicate situation. Many staff members are in isolation at the moment, adding to the plight. It could force the hand of Spurs to request another postponement because logic can only point towards that.
No information is available about the number of affected players but it seriously puts doubt over whether they would have enough players to face Leicester. And if the match does get rescheduled, they are in danger of facing heavy fixture congestion in the future.
Really Concerning
Conte cannot catch a break as he has been subjected to constant issues after taking the role at N17. It also puts the people involved at risk if this issue persists moving forward. It could lead to widespread cases if constant care is not given to this matter.
It is important to remember the effect it can have on the player’s mental health and families. Football truly takes a backseat in such times but we can only completely overlook that aspect once there is certainty regarding our future against the Foxes.
While we would be disappointed not to see the team playing, safety should always be the priority. Since this is the second breakout, we should try to completely shut down the club until the spread is not under control.
Otherwise, this issue will continue to persist throughout the season if it is not eradicated. That would be the worst-case scenario as we already have several games that need to be rescheduled, creating a pile-up of fixtures.

With the game against the Foxes set to take place on Thursday, we could soon know whether it is in contention to be played or not. We hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel, having been constantly plagued by this issue.
As for the Premier League, they would be wise to take measures that put clubs at ease regarding managing such breakouts. Putting on the pressure for the games to go ahead can make teams start training prematurely and risk this situation even further.
