Paris Saint-Germain lead the race for AC Milan star Franck Kessie ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, via TEAMtalk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Paris Saint-Germain are leading Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the race to sign AC Milan star Franck Kessie. His overall profile makes him an ideal target for clubs as he would bring a lot of quality to the midfield while having years ahead of him.
Kessie has played in 19 matches this season and has scored three goals and has an assist to his name. He also helped his side to six clean sheets in the process while assisting them in challenging for the league title. The Ivory Coast international has played a part in his team’s resurgence to the top after the Italian giants suffered for consistency in the past decade or so.
The defensive midfielder’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022, meaning he will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season if he doesn’t sign a renewal. It also means that he can reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January if both parties agree to the terms.
Milan are willing to offer a deal worth €6.5million in wages per season for an extension, but the 24-year-old is asking for a salary package of at least €8million-a-year. We don’t need a reminder about PSG’ financial power and it seems that they are leading the race to sign the African talent.
Missed chance?
Antonio Conte could still be in the process of assessing his squad ahead of the winter transfer window before deciding on his targets. However, based on the impression so far, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli have failed to meet expectations and fans would not be too disappointed if either of them is replaced in the lineup with a more able, consistent midfielder.
That is especially the case with Alli considered as dispensable by the club, who are looking at offers in order to offload the midfielder. Conte has a preferred midfield pairing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp, which raises the question of the need for the Ivory Coast midfielder.
However, that should not be an obstacle for a potential transfer as we need depth and quality in our squad to compete with heavyweights like Manchester City, Chelsea or Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Milan star would offer both those aspects to us, making him a valuable potential addition.

If the Italian manager does decide to approve his signing, we would be facing an uphill task to battle with the Paris-based club. Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici, both men who have worked in Serie A before, signed talents from Italy this summer.
It remains to be seen if they can eke out a deal for the former Atalanta midfielder in the near future.
