Real Betis eyeing a reunion with Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso ahead of January transfer window
According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes via The Hard Tackle (h/t Football.London), Real Betis are targeting a return for the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso ahead of the January transfer window. Spurs permanently signed him in 2020 after an impressive half-season on loan.
Tottenham paid Betis a princely sum of £27.2million in transfer fees for the services of Lo Celso. The Spanish club are interested in signing him back as he was excellent during his time at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. The English club, for their part, remains undecided on the future of the 25-year-old.
A potential loan move has the best chance of getting finalised in the winter transfer window. However, with Antonio Conte yet to fully assess the midfielder, it remains to be seen whether the Italian will sanction an exit.
Let him leave?
It is understandable if some feel that we should try to cash in on the Argentinian as he has not fared well at N17. However, he has not had many chances under Conte due to getting sidelined after picking up an injury.
The Spurs star had featured a considerable time only against Everton in the Premier League. He had an impressive display, injecting some much-needed imagination and creativity in the second half. He also had an embarrassing corner kick that we cannot forget, but it does not diminish what he did earlier.
Lo Celso nearly gave us the win that day following a brilliant play but saw his shot hit the post. Selling him now would be a premature decision on Conte’s part.
Moreover, Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele could be set to leave the club in January, having failed to take chances when it has come their way. The Argentine midfielder is ahead of them, meaning it is unlikely that we will reduce our depth by letting him leave as well.

Tottenham also can him used as an inside forward moving forward. Lo Celso was brought on for Lucas Moura against the Toffees in a similar position and gave a good account of his skills in the role.
Given our lack of dependable attackers, Lo Celso could prove to be the perfect foil to both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. Whether Conte also sees it that way or is open to letting the midfielder depart remains to be seen.
