Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United disagreed on potential January transfer deal for Dele Alli
According to TEAMtalk (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have failed to reach common ground over the potential transfer for Dele Alli in the January transfer window. The midfielder has been deemed as dispensable, having failed to turn around his form under Antonio Conte.
Alli has played two matches under Conte and has struggled to gain further minutes this season. The only time he had decent minutes was against NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League, where he put in a disappointing performance and was pulled at halftime.
With the January transfer window approaching, Newcastle enquired about his availability but have been unable to reach an agreement. Spurs are keen to loan out the player until the end of the 2021-22 season without including an option to buy.
However, the Magpies want an optional clause to buy the midfielder permanently if they survive relegation this season. It needs to be seen whether the Englishman is open to engaging in a survival clash at the lower end of the table.
What next?
It is sad to see how things have turned out for the Spurs star after having an impressive start to his career at N17. Many had tipped him to reach greater heights and rightfully so given his early promise.
A change of air could be what he needs at the moment to reignite his stagnating career. With the 2022 Qatar World Cup on the horizon, he would need to earn consistent minutes, and there may not be many offers on the table if the teams decide to look at how he has fared recently.

Conte has preferred a midfield pairing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp and, they have rewarded the boss with excellent performances. Skipp has been used in a slightly advanced position recently, which could indicate what he needs from his midfielders.
The England international does not have the right profile in such a system and, it would be wise for us to earn some money in transfer fees for the Tottenham outcast. For that reason, it is tough to understand the stance taken by the North London club over the terms involved in a potential January move.
