Newcastle United set to withdraw January interest for loan transfer as Dele Alli set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United have withdrawn their interest in a January transfer for Dele Alli as he is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur until the summer. He has breathed a new life into his Spurs career following the recent performance against Liverpool in the Premier League.

Newcastle were interested in a loan deal with validity until the end of the season while having the option to exercise a permanent transfer. They were also primed to face competition from West Ham United, who were also eyeing the services of Alli.

However, Antonio Conte has decided that the Englishman would receive a fair amount of chances to prove his worth. And it is because of this recent development that the player has decided to extend his stay for the rest of this campaign.

New Life?

Since the winter transfer window is just around the horizon, it is understandable why this decision would be taken. There is not enough time for the Italian coach to assess the 25-year-old and it would be a poor call if we loaned out Alli prematurely and then lived to regret it later this season. That coupled with his recent resurgence could have given the England star a new life at Tottenham.

Conte is yet to fully settle at the club. He has been here for a few weeks now, but the Covid-19 outbreak at Hotspur Way disrupted his plans. And with nearly 10 days to go until the winter window finally opens, it would be unfair to send Alli away without giving him a chance to properly prove his worth to the team.

The England international was in the starting lineup against the Reds and he did make a significant impact in the end. He now needs to build on it game by game and gain a foothold in the team.

It would be difficult for the Tottenham ace to get back into the squad due to heavy competition from all sides. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp have gained the upper hand over others in the team, whereas Harry Winks has been sensational recently.

Winks provided a remarkable performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side, indicating how challenging it would be. Tanguy Ndomebele has also shown signs that he could get back to the form he displayed at Lyon that made us splash the cash for him. That is without accounting for Giovani Lo Celso, who could make a return somewhere in the future following the injury.
