Antonio Conte gives Covid update on Tottenham Hotspur team with Ryan Sessegnon being injured
Tottenham Hotspur are set to face West Ham United in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup next, ahead of which Antonio Conte gave an update on the Covid situation and the injury concern regarding Ryan Sessegnon. The match is set to take place on Wednesday, where Spurs will have an opportunity to increase their chances of winning their first major trophy since 2008.
The Covid-19 outbreak ravaged Tottenham this month, resulting in three of their matches getting postponed. They were recently involved against Liverpool in the Premier League as they were on the path to overcoming the situation.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t The Athletic) [Subscription Required], Conte revealed that all the players would be available for selection against West Ham. He added that one of the players would only recover fully by tomorrow, but he would still be in contention.
“About COVID situation, all the players — one player tomorrow — but all the players are available. They recovered from COVID and we have all the players now negative. But as you know well, for sure with COVID you bring this virus with you for a bit of time. For sure many players at the moment are not so fit because they have to face this situation. The good news is we have all the players available.”
There’s always some bad news
The Italian manager also had a piece of bad news to provide regarding Sessegnon, who got injured during the last game. The former also added that the wide-man would be out on the sidelines for ten days to two weeks depending upon his recovery and the degree of the setback.
“A little bad news that Ryan Sessegnon had a problem at the end of the game against Liverpool. He’s the only player, with (Cristian) Romero, that is injured.”
It would be a tough blow for the 21-year-old, who has shown great promise recently by taking the chances given to him. The period on the sidelines is relatively small in number, but he would be gutted to have lost the opportunity to gain the starting spot over Sergio Reguilon.
The good news is how everyone has recovered from the coronavirus, which means that we have successfully contained the spread. We need to be cautious from now on since there is always a chance of another one as the Omicron variant has affected many countries in a short time.

The next match against the Hammers would be a perfect opportunity for us to test our mettle against one of the top dogs in England right now. Our record in London derbies was shambolic under Nuno Espirito Santo but the Portuguese is longer at N17, perhaps for that very reason.
Conte is here and he knows a thing or two about clubs in London. Having won the league with Chelsea earlier in his career, he would be aiming to break our trophy duck in his first season at the club itself. With Spurs no longer in the UEFA Europa Conference League, the League Cup offers a great chance at winning something this season.
