Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic told to snub Arsenal transfer for ‘perfect’ Tottenham Hotspur option
Speaking to CBS Sports, via the Express (h/t football.london), Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has urged Fiorentina ace Dusan Vlahovic to move to Tottenham Hotspur instead of arch-rivals Arsenal, claiming Spurs are a perfect option for the striker.
Vlahovic continues to be linked to Arsenal throughout the January transfer window, and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is said to be desperate to land the forward before the end of the month. It will give them a proven goalscorer whose star is on the rise.
Spurs too are said to be interested in the Serbian striker, with manager Antonio Conte a huge fan of the player. Romano believes Vlahovic will benefit from playing under Conte than move to Arsenal.
“Antonio Conte (is) the perfect manager to play with two strikers, Harry Kane together with him. Premier League, the right step not to go to a top club immediately – Tottenham is of course a top club but not ready to win the Champions League, for example. So I think it is the perfect step for him.”
Vlahovic’s future at Fiorentina remains a hot topic in this month’s transfer window. Despite strong interest from North London, La Viola are reluctant to sell their highly-rated star.
The 21-year-old has 18 months remaining on his contract in Florence, and Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso confirmed that the striker would not be extending his deal. This is despite the Serie A side offer to make him the highest-paid player in the history of the club.
Commisso expressed his disappointment at Vlahovic’s decision to leave the club, yet was insistent that the club would acknowledge the wishes of the player and let him leave.
“During my time in Florence over the past few weeks, I have personally endeavoured to find a solution that would make both the player and the club happy, but I am disappointed to say that our efforts and attempts have not been rewarded. At this point, all that we can do is acknowledge the wishes of the player and his entourage and quickly identify feasible, appropriate solutions as we proceed with this exciting new season.”
It is quite obvious to everyone that we have been poor in front of goal this season. Star striker Harry Kane is struggling to create an impact in the opposition box and lacks enough support to aid him in his regular goal-scoring business.
We failed to find cover for Kane at the beginning of the campaign, and this decision seems to have hurt us even more considering the striker’s poor form of late. There is no one to rely on to provide important goals in the squad, and it is a reminder once again that we are over-reliant on Kane to get us goals.

Convincing Vlahovic to join us this month would not only boost our chances of finishing the season strongly but it would also see us steal the player from right under our arch-rivals’ noses. Such an outcome is sure to delight Spurs fans.
Signing the Serbian is easier said than done, however, with Fiorentina unwilling to lose their biggest star mid-season. It will certainly be interesting to see what Spurs can do to snap him up if at all this month.
