Tottenham Hotspur have failed in a bid to land Manchester United forward Anthony Martial on loan
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have had a loan approach for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial turned down, with the Frenchman not interested in any loan move to join other English clubs.
Martial has not featured for the Red Devils since he played in the 3-2 win over Arsenal back in December. The France international has not been selected in the last five United games either, since interim coach Ralf Rangnick took over the reins at Old Trafford.
With the forward interested in a move away from Manchester, Spurs were one of the clubs that approached Man United with a loan bid., But it seems that the 26-year-old may be interested in a move abroad.
Man United are currently demanding that interested clubs cover Martial’s salary as well as a loan fee for sealing his signature. Apart from Tottenham, newly-rich Newcastle United have also been keen on adding the striker to their ranks as they seek to fight relegation.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte is desperate for a striker in January, with the Italian not having a backup striker in his squad to provide support for talisman Harry Kane. The English striker himself has been short of goals this season, which does not bode well for Conte’s quest to end the seasons strongly.
With Sevilla, Barcelona, and Juventus all said to be keen on signing Martial this window, Spurs have been given a blow to sign a forward in January. Conte has called for a new addition in that department and as things stand, it appears unlikely to be Martial.
Martial is no stranger to Spurs fans, having scored against us in previous encounters and resigning us to painful defeats at times. Conte seems to have recognised the forward’s knack for scoring in big games.
The France international is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, and Spurs would do well to acquire his services on loan for the rest of the season. Apart from providing cover to Kane, Martial could also help increase competition for spots in the lineup for strikers and motivate Kane to improve his current form.

Despite having a slight reputation for being inconsistent, we would do well with having someone of Martial’s experience in the league in our squad. After all, the idea is to plug the hole in our backup striker position, and it could even be argued that the Frenchman may be overqualified for the role.
Our last approach for Martial may have been turned down, but it remains to be seen if the forward has a change of heart and decides to stay in England for the remainder of the campaign. If so, we must be quick to pounce on a deal that is sure to benefit us till the end of the season.
