Valencia make a loan enquiry for Tottenham Hotspur forward Bryan Gil
According to AS (h/t ESPN), Valencia have approached Tottenham Hotspur regarding a transfer for Spanish international Bryan Gil.
The 20-year-old joined Tottenham last summer from La Liga side Sevilla. A talented player, he has shown glimpses of his immense potential. However, despite injuries to Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn, Gil has been unable to establish himself as a first-team regular this season.
With only one assist in 19 appearances across all competitions, Gil’s debut season at the N-17 has been rather underwhelming. With Bergwijn back available and Son set to return after the international break, the chances of Gil getting a run out at this time looks overly optimistic.
Spanish club Valencia have taken an interest in Gil and have reached out to Tottenham to enquire about the possibility of taking him on loan. Returning to his home country and Getting some healthy game time could potentially aid Gil’s chances of making the Spanish squad for this year’s FIFA World Cup.
It would appear the transfer will likely materialise late in the January transfer window if the North London team’s board gives the green light. With games coming thick and fast, it could be risky for Spurs to let the player go without bringing in a replacement first.
Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura are the club’s first choice attackers. As things stand, Bergwijn and Gil are the only options Antonio Conte has in reserve and letting the latter go will leave him shorthanded in attack. Looking at the Covid related issues and growing injury concerns due to the hectic schedule, we risk shooting ourselves in the foot.
Gil is young and has a long career ahead of him. As things stand, he still has much to prove before establishing himself as a regular for Tottenham. Antonio Conte currently has the luxury to experiment with the youngster, but Gil has to do much in order to win his manager’s trust.
Warming the bench certainly wouldn’t help either party. Therefore, from the player’s point of view, the priority should be to gain regular first-team minutes. Given that is is a precious commodity at the Lane, it remains to be seen if Gil will push for a mvoe to the Mestalla.

Valencia could offer the youngster an excellent opportunity to showcase his worth. Having him continue his development elsewhere where he can play week in week out will also aid us in the years to come
However, selling him or loaning him will not solve solve any of our current problems. So, we have to find a quality replacement immediately if the Spurs board decides to accept Valencia’s potential offer. With just over a week left for the January transfer window to close, time is running out for Tottenham to make their decision.
