Olympique Lyonnais and Tottenham Hotspur have a loan agreement in place for Spurs ace Giovani Lo Celso

According to reliable sports reporter, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Olympique Lyonnais and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to let Spurs star Giovani Lo Celso join the Ligue 1 side on loan this month.

The Argentine moved to England permanently in 2020 from Real Betis but has failed to establish himself in the Spurs squad so far. Lo Celso has played for multiple managers during his time in north London but has so far not been able to convince any of them about his abilities to start week in, week out.

Despite an agreement reportedly in place, Lyon is likely to face competition from Villareal to snap up Lo Celso. The La Liga outfit have also approached Spurs to enquire about the Argentina international’s availability.

Lo Celso seems to have fallen out of favour with incumbent Spurs manager Antonio Conte, who does not appear to have the midfielder in mind at the club for the near future. Conte also dropped the player from his squad for the Chelsea fixture last weekend where Spurs suffered a 2-0 loss in the league, despite the Argentine being fully fit as claimed by himself on social media.

Battle to sign Lo Celso

The relationship between player and manager seems to have suffered a fracture, and Lo Celso’s future at Tottenham appears unclear while the Italian is in charge. With Lyon and Villareal keen on taking the player on loan for the rest of the season, a temporary exit from Spurs may be the best option for the 25-year-old.

Despite Romano claiming that an agreement is in place between the two clubs, he has also said that a move to Lyon has not been fully agreed with the player as of yet. As things stand, details on his contract are yet to be hashed out.

Lo Celso has endured a tough start to life this season, battling injury concerns while also trying to carve a niche for himself since Conte took charge mid-season. The Argentine has not been at his best physically this campaign, and Conte seems to have decided that Spurs could do without Lo Celso’s services any longer.

With Lyon and Villareal approaching him with an escape route from England, the midfielder could benefit from moving to either club, given his previous experience playing in France and Spain before his move to Spurs. The 25-year-old could once again kick-start his career abroad after a tough time in north London.

A loan deal seems to be a great move for the Argentine, who could use this opportunity to build up his fitness and gain regular game time in a bid to come back to Spurs and prove to Conte that he is capable of thriving at Tottenham. The player has plenty of years left in him, and a temporary move away from England could do him a lot of good and help improve his form.

We hope that the club manages to get this deal over the line before Monday’s deadline, so the midfielder can go out and play some first-team football and return a better player for us. It would be a waste of time for both club and player to have Lo Celso remain an outcast at Spurs if a deal to let the midfielder out on loan is not completed soon.
