Transfer News: Valencia confident about signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Bryan Gil on loan
According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Valencia are feeling confident about completing the signing of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Bryan Gil on loan this month. This news comes just a few days from the transfer window deadline on Monday.
Gil joined Spurs earlier this season from Sevilla, with Tottenham’s Erik Lamela heading the other way. The Spaniard has not gotten a lot of game time since his arrival, mostly due to the competition for places in the squad from senior players.
Now, it looks like the starlet might be heading back to La Liga just six months after he moved to North London, with talks progressing after Valencia made new contact regarding the player’s transfer on Saturday.
Valencia are said to be willing to cover the star’s salary until the summer, which would naturally make any loan deal a more favourable prospect as opposed to a situation where the parent club has to chip in on the wage front. The English club would be rid of expenses, while also allowing their player to gain more minutes and first-team experience elsewhere.
Spain return for Gil?
The La Liga club is looking to complete only a temporary deal for Gil, as they look to complete a loan move that would see him depart Spain at the end of the season. If the talented youngster impresses them in the next few months, we may see him more regularly in our first-team fold subsequently.
Despite Romano’s claims about the loan agreement for Gil getting closer and Valencia’s confidence in completing the deal before the end of the month, Tottenham are yet to make a final decision on the player. Having just joined them the previous summer, it remains to be seen if Spurs let him leave for another club, albeit temporarily.
One of Spanish football’s brightest young talents, Tottenham seemed to have pulled off a smart piece of business at the beginning of the season when they managed to get Gil’s signature. Only 20, the winger has already earned a call up to the national team and made his debut last year as well, even representing La Roja in the Olympics.
Things have not gone entirely Gil’s way since his arrival at N17, being used mainly in the League Cup and European fixtures. The player has barely featured in the Premier League, often reduced to appearances from the bench in the dying minutes of the game.

Given Gil’s situation, it may be best for us to let the Spaniard go out on loan to further his development and gain some first-team experience. Having already tasted La Liga experience during his time with Sevilla, Gil may well enjoy his time at Valencia if the deal goes through.
The Spanish club will be getting one of their country’s most talented players to help them secure a possible European spot and push up the table during the remainder of the season, as they currently sit 10th in the table. And for us, it may be a way to get the best out of the young winger in the shortest time possible.
