Carlo Ancelotti confirms Gareth Bale summer exit amidst Tottenham Hotspur links
Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Gareth Bale will be leaving Real Madrid next summer amidst links to Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential transfer next summer. The Welsh international recently returned to contention and now has the opportunity for one final hurrah at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bale will see his contract at Real expire at the end of this season. Technically, he could sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Spain if he has already made up his mind to move elsewhere. He has been linked with a transfer to N17 in recent weeks and Ancelotti’s revelation will do little to calm matters.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t The Express), Ancelotti revealed that the Welshman will be leaving the club when the current campaign ends. He added that the forward has always been professional and has wished him a great end to his Los Blancos career.
“Bale has not disrespected his teammates, he trains well, he is professional. He wants to finish here as he deserves. Because he has helped win the Champions League, he has done important things… And I think that finishing here well would be good for his career. So I talk to Bale and try to listen to the problems he has like I do with everyone. My personal relationship with the players is good.”
Spurs and Bale reunion?
Injuries and Covid-19 ravaged the 32-year-old’s chances of enjoying a solid campaign this season. He has just played four matches in total throughout this term, with all four of them being in La Liga. He could be in line to start in the highly anticipated match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16.
If the La Liga ace could rejuvenate himself ahead of next season, he could end up being an option for us to consider. However, his injury history must be taken into account before we go down the route to sign him. Whether Antonio Conte would give his approval or not remains to be seen.
The Welsh international enjoyed a solid loan spell with us last season despite injuries preventing him from showing off his best. Even if a free transfer reduces the risk to an extent, we must manage his wages if there are concrete plans to land his services. After all, we would not want to pay a lucrative wage bill to someone who may not be available regularly for selection.

If Fabio Paratici and co do go down this path, the Los Blancos attacker could prove to be a shrewd backup addition. His versatility to play anywhere in attack and the ability to deputise as a wing-back could provide a valuable option to Conte. It remains to be seen whether we would target him on a free transfer after this season.
