FIFA hand Tottenham Hotspur major Cristian Romero boost following Argentina decision
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur received a major boost as FIFA have decided to suspend Cristian Romero for the next two international games for Argentina. That would be music to the ears of the English club as he has just returned from a long term injury.
FIFA have taken this stance after Romero failed to comply with the FIFA Return to Football International Match Protocol. He violated the guidelines, having featured in the abandoned 2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifiers match against Brazil in September.
Tottenham loanee Giovani Lo Celso is also in the same boat as the centre-back after failure to follow the rules. Both of them was forced to get off during the international match as ANVISA – Brazil’s national health surveillance agency – entered the pitch and stopped the game.
ANVISA later declared that the Spurs duo entered Brazil without notifying them that they had arrived from the United Kingdom. Those arriving from England were supposed to quarantine for 14 days due to the circumstances at that particular time. As such, the duo will miss the matches against Venezuela and Ecuador next month if Argentina does not appeal the decision.
We’ll take it
While we are sorry for the Argentine internationals going through this situation, things could not get any better for us regarding this update. After all, this would enable the defender to get some rest during next month’s international break.
However, we would be hoping that the Argentina national team would not challenge the decision and make an appeal. That could turn things around if the outcome ends up in their favour ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers in March.

The Tottenham star has instantly slotted into the backline since returning from injury, which shows his importance under Antonio Conte. We would need his services for the matches that will take place before the break in March.
That could be too much workload for someone who has been on the sidelines for a significant time this season. As such, the South American being out of contention for the qualifiers could do us wonders by reducing the risk of an untimely injury. It remains to be seen if there would be a change in FIFA’s decision in the build-up to the two fixtures in March.
