Tottenham Hotspur told to sign Djed Spence as he “massively” suits Antonio Conte
Former Spurs star Alan Hutton has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur should sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough since he “massively” suits Antonio Conte. The right-back is currently out on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he has excelled so far with sensational performances even against Premier League teams.
Tottenham already expressed their interest to secure Spence’s services in the summer transfer window. They have received further backing from their former star to ramp up their pursuit to finalise a transfer for him after this season.
Hutton played as a right-back for the North London side between 2008 and 2011, and his experience playing in a similar position adds further validity to his comments. Speaking in an interview with Football Insider (h/t NottinghamshireLive), Hutton has expressed that the 21-year-old seems ready to take the next step in his playing career.
The former defender also added that the Boro loanee could thrive at N17 due to Conte’s system and formation.
“Spence is a boy who has come through and looks ready for the next level, in my opinion. He’s been incredible for Forest.”
“There’s a chance within that Spurs team, with the formation and system they play, for someone to really go ahead and thrive. Spence massively fits the bill for Conte and that system, there’s no doubt.”

The English fullback has quickly become a regular at Forest, having made 32 appearances this season across all competitions. Moreover, he has also scored two goals alongside three assists during his season-long loan spell so far at City Ground. He seems like a superstar in the making, and we need to prise the defender away before others beat us to him.
A host of clubs are interested in securing the Boro prospect’s signature ahead of next summer. Arsenal and Leeds United are two of the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on him, showcasing how he has earned a name for himself. We would need to be wary of them and finalise a move before others can make their case.
According to Sky Sports, clubs like Bayern Munchen, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and RB Leipzig are monitoring the situation to try their chances ahead of the next season. They even go as far as to say that all teams in the English top-flight have the Championship ace on their radars.
Boro are open to listening to offers for the English right-back, with his contract expiring in 2023. We cannot afford to wait for too long, considering how many other sides are vying to finalise a transfer.
