Transfer News: Leicester City battle Wolves for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers
According to the American media outlet SBI Soccer (h/t LeicestershireLive), Leicester City will face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers to secure the services of Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers ahead of the summer transfer window. The defender is currently playing for Celtic and is on a season-long loan at the Scottish giants.
Carter-Vickers’s impressive displays in the Scottish Premiership have attracted a lot of attention from the Premier League and the Championship. Leicester have become aware of his prowess, prompting them to “headline” an interest in securing his services.
Brendan Rodgers could do with a couple of defensive additions as he plots a summer overhaul. The 24-year-old appears to have caught his eye but it remains to be seen if a move could be finalised or not. Wolves are also in the fray alongside Watford and Bournemouth, who are vying to secure his signature as well.
What should Spurs do with Carter-Vickers?
The US international has quickly become a regular for Celtic and has earned a name for himself during that period. He has three goals and an assist to his name this campaign from 35 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, his contributions in defence have also helped them keep 17 clean sheets so far.
The Tottenham loanee is set to return to N17 if the Glasgow based club does not activate the buy option included in his deal. If he rejoins us at the end of this term, then Spurs will need to make a firm decision over the player’s future and where it may lie.
That being said, we could also decide to keep hold of the Spurs star if Antonio Conte demands the central defender’s services. That is certainly a possibility considering the defensive struggles we have suffered despite the presence of Eric Dier and Cristian Romero.

After all, Davinson Sanchez is still unreliable even if he has improved under Conte, whereas Joe Rodon is an outcast for us. Moreover, Ben Davies is not a natural centre-back, while Japhet Tanganga has struggled with an injury and could be deemed dispensable for a better option.
However, if the 52-year-old manager has no plans for Carter-Vickers, he could still be of help to us due to the interests of all these clubs. Let’s wait and see whether Ange Postecoglou’s side would trigger the optional clause or not so that we can prepare for what lies in front of us.
