Tottenham Hotspur could return for Adama Traore in the summer transfer window
According to The Athletic (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur could target Adama Traore in the summer transfer window depending on whether Barcelona will choose to sign him on permanently.
Tottenham tried to sign Traore in the January transfer window, but Barca beat them to secure the attacker’s signature. Antonio Conte was frustrated by their failure as he had plans for the winger to be used as a right-wingback. The Catalans pipped them to land the forward on loan with an option to make his move permanent.
The Blaugrana side are eager to trigger the clause, but their financially stricken situation could prevent them from paying the £29million in transfer fees. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has also confirmed doubts regarding a permanent move for the Spaniard. As such, Spurs could rekindle their interest to try again next summer should the Spanish club fail to activate the option.
A second chance?
Our plans ultimately depend on the stance that Barcelona makes regarding this matter. Traore has been in good nick at the Nou Camp and is enjoying a fruitful return to the club where he began his career.
However, if they opt against activating the buy option, the North London side should try to sign the 26-year-old again, especially considering that Conte is a keen admirer of his qualities.
That being said, there are doubts on whether the Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee would be willing to accept a move to N17. That could be due to his being played in an unfamiliar position compared to his usual role, even if he has been utilised similarly by his former coach Bruno Lage in the past.
The Wolves star did not entertain a contract extension with his loan club, which means that he will be in the final year of his deal should Xavi Hernandez’s side let him depart this summer. The Wanderers would be willing to sell him off since they could lose for free at the end of next season.

Traore’s decision making in the final third is subject to some scrutiny, but he has shown the ability to thrive in the right system. Conte appeared to be keen on making him a big part of the Tottenham puzzle and we should aid the Italian in realizing his plans.
Traore can still make better choices and could try to better his one-dimensional style of play. That being said, he has already improved quite a lot under Xavi, which means that he could do the same under the Spurs boss. Whether a transfer is on the cards remains to be seen.
