“Give my best”- 25-year-old Tottenham loanee reveals transfer stance ahead of summer transfer window

Aston Villa make renewed push for Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso.

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Giovani Lo Celso sends a message on potential Villarreal stay

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Giovani Lo Celso has provided his current stance on the prospect of staying on at Villarreal after this summer transfer window. The central midfielder has done well so far since his return to Spain in January and has regained his lost form after his disappointing spell at N17.

Tottenham facilitated a temporary move for Lo Celso in the January transfer window that saw him join up with former Arsenal boss Unai Emery in La Liga. The midfielder has become a regular for his side in a matter of a few games and has looked at his best so far. As such, the Spanish side could look to make the loan transfer a permanent one if he proves his worth in the remainder of this campaign.

Speaking in an interview with the Spanish media source Marca (h/t Football.London), Lo Celso has chipped in with his thoughts regarding a potential stay at Estadio de la Ceramica after this season. The midfielder has conveyed that his mind is fully set on the present and is not thinking about what is going to happen next summer.

“I try to enjoy the day to day, each training session, each match and, later, football and life will tell what is happening. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I do know that I’m working 100%, that I’m going to give my best and we’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Potential summer exit?

It seems that a departure would be in the best interest of all the parties since Antonio Conte allowed the loan move in the first place. That could indicate that the boss has no plans for the midfielder in his squad moving forward. As such, there is no reason for us to keep him in our books from next season onwards, showcasing why a sale should be finalised this coming summer.

It is really frustrating to see how things have turned out for the former Real Betis man during his time with us. The Argentine never seemed to click consistently enough in London and injuries halted any progress he made. In contrast, he was a beast for his national team and even helped them to win the 2021 Copa America title.

There is an optional clause in the agreement between the English club and El Submarino Amarillo for the Argentine midfielder. Should he continue to perform in this manner, they could activate the buy option at the end of this season. We are hopeful that is the case as it would give us a much needed financial boost to uplift our squad next season.

It remains to be seen if we can recuperate most of the £27.2million in transfer fees that we paid to Betis for the loanee’s signature. Whether Emery’s side would activate the option to buy or not would only be known in due time in the remainder of this term.
