Antonio Conte is keen to deploy Harry Kane as the Tottenham Hotspur number nine
According to The Independent, Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte has outlined his plans for star striker Harry Kane moving forward.
The English international is one of the finest forwards in world football and has added more arrows into his quiver in recent months. An infallible goalscorer, Kane has also excelled in dropping deep and adding a creator’s element to his game.
This has seen him gel better with the players alongside him and act as a de-facto playmaker of sorts. This has been especially key given Tottenham’s lack of an out and out number 10 in their squad.
With 20 goals and seven assists to his name this season, Kane leads the Tottenham goal scoring and assists charts. The discovery of his talent for creating goals has certainly helped bring the best out of Son Heung-min and January signing Dejan Kulusevski.
Conte has given a generous appraisal of the 28-year-old, praising his ability to score and assist goals regularly. It is fair to say that Conte more or less believes Kane is his biggest asset at Spurs.
“Harry, he was born a striker. But he has the talent and quality to play like a number 10 with another striker in front of him.”
Conte goes on to add that he plans to deploy Kane as an out and out number nine, bringing in another player to fulfil the number 10 role. This could very well give us a hint of where Tottenham’s priorities lie in the upcoming summer transfer window.
“But I like to have him as a striker and then eventually another number 10. Two different players with different characteristics.”
The Spurs boss’s comments are understandable given that he wants to add more weapons to his arsenal. As things stand, Tottenham are too reliant on Kane and it is not something that opponents are not aware of. By bringing in more players, we could certainly add an element of surprise to our gameplay.
“It’s important to have different options, otherwise you are predictable.”

It is quite evident that Tottenham needs a number 10 given their lack of creativity from midfield. They have been linked with a move to re-sign Christian Eriksen in recent days and it makes sense to bring back the Dane to his spiritual home. Whether he will return to N-17 or Spurs will bring in someone else remains to be seen.
