Steven Gerrard believes Harry Kane can find happiness at Tottenham Hotspur
According to The Independent, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has opened up on the rumours regarding Harry Kane and his future at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of his team’s encounter against Antonio Conte’s men tomorrow.
The English skipper is one of the best strikers in the world and is at 28, in his prime. While he has consistently performed for Tottenham over the years, it has translated little into trophies for the club.
It is almost unfair that a player of his calibre goes trophyless but given the way Spurs have handled themselves over the years, it is perhaps understandable. There is little doubt that the English ace craves glory and unless the club helps him attain that, speculation regarding his future will always be up in the air.
Kane came close to departing N-17 last summer, following strong interest from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side failed with a blockbuster £100million bid and the player ended up staying at Tottenham.
Gerrard has now voiced his opinion on the matter and revealed his admiration for Kane’s loyalty to the North London side. He believes the English skipper will have had more than one opportunity to give in to the temptation of leaving but has so far held firm.
“I admire his loyalty to Tottenham and, of course, I’m sure it’s been tempting for him on many occasions to go and take one of those options.”
The Liverpool legend goes on to add that there is still time for Kane to win honours at Tottenham. Given that he came through the tough tanks at Spurs, it is safe today that Kane could treasure his success with us rather than elsewhere.
“But winning something with your team, the one you love and the supporters you love, I think that will mean more to him for the rest of his life than a short-term fix.”
Gerrard has certainly felt the pulse of Spurs fans everywhere. The former Liverpool skipper will be well aware of loyalty given that he committed the best years of his career to the Reds despite having opportunities to move elsewhere.
Granted that, unlike Kane, he might have won trophies at regular intervals while at Anfield, but the sentiment still holds. Kane has every right to choose the course he feels is best for his career but leading Tottenham to glory will certainly hit him harder than doing the same elsewhere.
He endured a difficult start to the season but appears to have regained his form following Antonio Conte’s appointment. He has also added more weapons to his arsenal and is today amongst the most complete frontmen in the Premier League.
