Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Christian Eriksen is happy at Brentford
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their hopes of re-signing former favourite Christian Eriksen.
The Dane spent close to seven years at Spurs, making 305 appearances across all competitions. During that time, he scored 69 goals and assisted 90 more. A key player under Mauricio Pochettino, he eventually left for Inter Milan in 2020.
The move to Italy had its moments but it was underwhelming given the performances Eriksen put up while at Tottenham. Eriksen was released by the Nerazzurri months after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 against Finland.
The Danish ace’s career looked to be over but given the fighter that he is, the 30-year-old joined Brentford on a short-term deal and has thrived under Thomas Frank’s guidance. Eriksen has so far made four appearances for the Bees, scoring and assisting one goal apiece.
This rekindling of his former self has alerted Tottenham, who have been linked with a move for his services. Eriksen’s current deal at Brentford expires in the summer and the Premier League newcomers are desperate to keep hold of him.
The 30-year-old for his part is happy at the club and has revealed it in no uncertain terms. Given the welcome and the love he has received from the Brentford faithful, one can understand the midfielder’s sentiments. The Danish connection with the Bees gaffer certainly helps as well.
“The welcome from the fans, players and staff, really everyone, has been very happy for me. I am very happy to be here.”
Eriksen starred in Brentford’s impressive 4-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Bees look set to come out on top in the battle to escape relegation and Eriksen could have a huge role to play. It would appear that his legacy in the Premier League is far from done.
A proven performer and a crowd favourite, Eriksen could have added much to the Spurs roster. As things stand, Antonio Conte lacks a reliable midfield create who can fashion chances at will for the Tottenham forwards.

Eriksen has already played with the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura and is well aware of how to make use of their strengths. While adding him to the squad would have been a shrewd move, it would appear that for the time being, the player’s head and heart are both at Brentford.
