Owen Hargreaves believes Tottenham Hotspur are in the driving seat for the Premier League fourth spot
Speaking on the Premier League post-production show as quoted by Metro, Owen Hargreaves has backed Tottenham Hotspur to secure fourth place ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal despite a tepid defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The North Londoners had a forgettable performance against the Seagulls at Hotspur Way. They failed to register a single shot on target throughout the entire game and a late Leandro Trossard winner secured all three points for Graham Potter’s men on the day.
Arsenal also succumbed to a humiliating 1-0 defeat to Southampton on the day. Manchester United got the better of Norwich City courtesy of a stunning Cristiano Ronaldo hattrick. This means that Spurs are still in fourth position on the PL table.
While speaking on the Premier League post-production show as quoted by Metro, the 41-year-old pundit had highlighted the tough run of fixtures that the Gunners have in England’s top flight this season.
‘Fixture-wise, it’s tough for Arsenal. They’ve got Chelsea, Man United, West Ham, Leeds, and Tottenham coming up. Looking at Arsenal’s fixtures I’m saying no.’
The former Man Utd player highlighted that Spurs were in a great position to make a top-four finish as his former club are too inconsistent for his liking at the moment. These comments would be sweet music to Tottenham fans all over the world right now.
‘Tottenham are still in the driving seat because they’re ahead. Arsenal have that game in hand but I think Arsenal will fall short with the fixtures they’ve got. Manchester United are just too inconsistent. Tottenham should be able to get the job done.’
A top-four finish this season?
A UEFA Champions League spot for next season seemed like a distant dream not too long ago. The club from N-17 largely struggled under the reign of Nuno Espirito Santo and struggled for results.
That being said, the arrival of Antonio Conte has sparked new life in our players. Harry Kane has become a menacing threat once again and we have started bagging goals for fun on occasions. That was not the case against Brighton though.
We hope that the Lilywhites can put this minor blip behind us as we take on Brentford. While the Gunners still have two games in hand over us, Mikel Arteta’s men have now lost their last three matches in the Premier League.

Even tougher fixtures await them and the Red Devils’ performances have blown hot and cold throughout the course of the campaign. In such circumstances, it would be safe to say that Tottenham Hotspur does have the best chance for Champions League qualification next season.
Whilst Owen Hargreaves’s statements seem to favour our cause, we should be wary of any complacency as we head towards the business end of the season. Only time can tell whether or not we can witness those glorious European nights once again.
