Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte expects forward Son Heung-Min to get even better
As quoted by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has lavished praise on his forward Son Heung-Min, saying that the player could get even better than his current goal-scoring form.
The South Korean ace has been brilliant in attack for Spurs of late, chipping in with crucial goals for the team as they try to consolidate their hold on the fourth spot in the Premier League table.
Although he was kept out of action for a while due to injury and returned as a different player, Conte suggested that it was normal that Son would need a bit of time to recover and get back into the team’s idea and style of football once again.
“We are talking about a really good player. I was sure that it was normal after an injury to need a bit of time to recover the best possible condition and get back into our idea of football again.”
The former Bayer Leverkusen star scored a hat-trick against Aston Villa last weekend, but was unable to find the back of the net yesterday against Brighton as the Lilywhites failed to get a single shot on target despite playing at home.
“But I was sure”
At 29, Son is arguably in the prime of his playing career and hitting his peak, which augurs well for Tottenham as they look to make progress under Conte and break their long-standing trophy drought. Alongside Harry Kane, he is perhaps the player that Spurs look up to when they are in need of a goal.
The Italian manager said that Son was a really important player for the team, but can improve and expects him to give the side a big push towards the end of the season as they look to qualify for the Champions League next term.
“But I was sure, because Sonny for us is a really important player and at the peak of his form. But he can improve, and that is my expectation – that he gives us from now until the end of the season a big push and to try to finish his race in the best possible way.”
Son’s return to form from his recent injury could not be more well-timed for Tottenham, coinciding with Harry Kane finding his scoring boots again in 2022. The duo is arguably the team’s best attacking outlet, and Conte will need both of them to give it their all until the summer.
In the past, we have been over-reliant on Kane for goals, which puts a great burden on the shoulders of the England captain. Son’s presence alongside him alleviates some of the pressure, with the duo putting in match-winning performances by feeding off of each other.

There can be no questions about Son being a quality player, but he can only take his game to the next level as Conte expects from him by finding consistency. Like last night, the South Korea international is guilty of going missing in games at times – although none of our players covered themselves in glory against the Seagulls.
Fans will expect him to continue his purple patch in the remaining weeks of the campaign, so we can finish strong and qualify for the UCL. His form will be crucial to how our next campaign shapes up. It is a shame that we could not capitalize on Arsenal’s loss against Southampton and let Man United steal a march on us by beating Norwich City- but we need to treat that as a wake-up call.
