Transfer News: Antonio Conte wants Tottenham Hotspur to sign Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger
According to Football Insider (h/t Football.London), Antonio Conte has asked Tottenham Hotspur to target Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger in the summer transfer window. The defender’s future at Stamford Bridge has been clouded by uncertainty for quite some time, and now the boss seems to want to take advantage of this situation.
Rudiger is in line to be available on a free transfer at the end of this season. An agreement over a renewal has not been reached just yet, which has put his services up for grabs in the coming months. Real Madrid have already expressed an interest to sign the centre-back, but they will now face competition from Tottenham.
Spurs have rekindled their interest in the German international due to Conte’s demand. The man in charge wants to be reunited with the central defender whom he managed during his tenure with the Blues. He is adamant that they should complete this move to bolster their defence ahead of the next term.
Do Spurs have a chance?
The 29-year-old would undoubtedly be a massive boost to our backline, considering how he dominates the opposition on the left-hand side of the defence. What’s more, his tendency to push forward and get involved in the attack makes him perfectly suitable for the Italian boss’ tactics.
Ben Davies is currently being employed as a left-sided centre-back in our team. He has done quite well in that role despite not being a natural central defender. That being said, it would be best to bring in someone who is suited to that position to prevent the risks involved in the future.
Rudiger would be a great option for us in such a case, plus Conte’s prior experience of managing him makes him an even better target to sign. Moreover, a free transfer opportunity is something that we should consider as we can reduce the expenses and use that sum to bolster other areas.
However, there are quite some serious obstacles that we need to overcome to even have a chance to sign the Premier League ace. After all, the West Londoners have a fierce rivalry with us, which in and of itself reduces our chances of signing him.

Real pose more concerns as they are in a far better state than us under the current circumstances. That’s not all, as they also have the added advantage of being able to engage in pre-contract talks as the rule only applies to foreign clubs and players nearing the end of their deals.
However, the North London side must do their best to give the former Inter Milan boss what he wants this summer. Whether a move will happen, though, would only be known in due time.
