Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur rival Arsenal for Torino defender Gleison Bremer
According to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport [Print Edition] (h/t London World), Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out with Arsenal for the signature of Torino defender Gleison Bremer ahead of the summer transfer window. He has earned quite a name for himself, having played a key role in making his side have one of the best defences in Serie A this season.
Bremer has truly developed to become one of the best centre-backs in Italy since leaving Atletico Mineiro in 2018. He has attracted quite some attention in the past few months from elsewhere as the interested parties look to get their hands on him. Tottenham and the Gunners are two of those clubs as they want to sign him moving forward.
Both North London sides have received the price tag for the Brazilian as they look to prise him away before others. They would need to pay an amount in the region of £43million to finalise a move. Newcastle United are also keeping tabs on his situation ahead of the potential summer move.
Can Spurs sign Bremer?
With Mikel Arteta’s side rivalling us in this transfer race, it would be a stern challenge for us to finalise a move for the 25-year-old. Newcastle’s presence makes things worse as they will be boosted following their ownership takeover last year.
The current valuation is a bit expensive for sure, but it is certainly reasonable as well, looking at how the Serie A defender has performed over the past year or so. We need to sign world-class players in crucial positions if they are ambitious enough to challenge for titles under Antonio Conte.
As such, signing players like Bremer would normally be expensive, which appears to be the case here as well. However, we must bring him to N17 despite the cost, as bringing in a central defender is quite important for us under the current situation.

After all, we only have three reliable options in Ben Davies, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero at this moment. What’s more, Davies is a full-back in trade, making it even more necessary why we should target Bremer. While we have other options like Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez, they can be moved out to bring in more quality additions.
Whether Bremer would be one such quality reinforcement or not remains to be seen. We hope that is the case, as Conte must be backed by bringing in such targets to give us a fair shot at winning silverware.
