Manager Antonio Conte claims Tottenham Hotspur stalemate at Brentford was a good result
Speaking after his side’s 0-0 draw against Brentford last night (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte claimed that the team picked up a ‘good draw’ against their opponents, despite suffering a blow in the top-four race.
Tottenham came into the game at the Brentford Community Stadium looking to bounce back after last week’s 1-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion but dropped points once again as they were held to a frustrating goalless draw away from home.
Conte looked at the positives instead, claiming that it was a good draw and that they need to live with this situation, knowing that they are in a very difficult race to finish in the top-four of the Premier League table.
“We are in this race and we want to try to stay in it, but we know it is very difficult. The opponent tries to pay more attention when they play against you. We have to live with this situation. Today is a good draw.”
The result leaves the Lilywhites in fifth place, two points away from fourth-placed Arsenal. However, Conte and Co. will be happy about the Gunners’ win against Manchester United yesterday, which the Red Devils slip further down in the race for a top-four spot this term.
“It is important to take one point”
It was once again a poor showing from Spurs, who for the second game in a row, failed to get a single shot on target despite boasting forwards like Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, and Son Heung-Min.
The team’s Italian manager said it was important to take one point from a game you cannot win while lamenting his side’s inability to create more chances and urged his players to do much better with the ball. However, he did praise the defence after coming up against a physical team, as he described.
“They are a physical team and tried to exploit the dangerous areas. I think defensively we were good but at the same time I think we can do much better with the ball to create more chances. But when you cannot win it is important to take one point.”
Despite claiming that it was a good draw against Brentford, Conte is sure to be concerned about his team being unable to shake off their poor display from last week’s Brighton clash. The game against the Seagulls also looked to be heading for a draw, but Leandro Trossard struck in the last minute to claim all three points for the south coast club.
With a heavily contested top-four race to manage by the end of the season, wins are crucial for Tottenham. They have already dropped five points from their previous two gameweeks, after going on a 4-game winning streak prior to the Brighton match.

Our next three matches are tough fixtures to deal with, having to face Leicester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal. Effectively, the game against the Gunners may decide who claims the last Champions League qualification spot in this campaign.
The biggest concern for Conte will be the fact that we have failed to get going in attack, after failing to hit the target in consecutive games. Much work will need to be done in the training ground to rectify this before our next fixtures, which could determine where we finish by the summer.
