Ryan Sessegnon speaks on his Tottenham return from injury after draw to Brentford
Speaking to Spurs TV as quoted by Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon shared his views on returning to the squad and dropping crucial points against Brentford.
The 21-year-old was returning from injury against the Bees and was brought into the lineup to replace Sergio Reguilon who has been struggling with a slight groin problem. This was the perfect launchpad for Sessegnon to make his mark but the youngster largely failed to rise to the occasion.
The former Fulham man has continuously struggled with nagging injury issues ever since arriving at Hotspur Way. His performances have also blown hot and cold but he has largely struggled to gain any real momentum owing to his difficult relationship with match fitness.
The English defender expected a tough game against Brentford who were coming into the game with some confidence owing to their recent form. Spurs ended the game 0-0 at full time.
“We knew coming into the game, they’ve won three games on the bounce and we’re coming off a defeat ourselves, so we know when the fans get behind this team it’s going to be a difficult game and that’s what it was today. Obviously I’m happy to be back in the team but again, it was one of those difficult ones to come back into.”
Spurs, who are involved in the race for the fourth position in the Premier League table, will be working hard for each and every point. Hence, the draw against the West London club would have been a disappointing affair, especially with Arsenal making the most by defeating Manchester United in their PL fixture.
“Obviously we dropped points today but we’ve got another game next week, at home, in front of our fans, so we need to go there and win the game,”
Sessegnon and a difficult period
The North Londoners were on a great run prior to the defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion. That being said, the club have now hit a rough patch and failed to land a single shot on target in their last two fixtures.
Sessegnon was then taken off in the second half and replaced by Davinson Sanchez in an attempt to bring some more firepower to the North Londoners. Antonio Conte had to field out with the 21-year-old as left-back and Emerson Royal as a right-back.
The Brazilian has also struggled to make a substantial impact in the last couple of games and is currently deputizing for the injured Matt Doherty on the right flank. The Italian manager largely relies on the wing-backs in his formation to provide a creative outlet going forward.

There has clearly been a dearth of chances and we hope that Sessegnon, as well as Royal, can have a bigger influence in the matches to come. It was a difficult return to first-team action for the former Fulham starlet but we hope that he can maintain his fitness and improve going forward.
