Transfer News: Borussia Monchengladbach will sell Tottenham Hotspur target Marcus Thuram this summer

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to sell Marcus Thuram in this coming summer transfer window.

Now, The Sun adds that Tottenham Hotspur have maintained their interest in Thuram, and they are keeping tabs on his situation at this moment.

Thuram will see his current contract with Monchengladbach expire at the end of the next season. As such, they will not allow him to depart for free and would look to facilitate a move this summer. Hence, he could be available for a cut-price deal which would be a boost for Tottenham.

It is claimed that Gladbach would be willing to sell him for a price tag between £10million and £15million in transfer fees. Spurs will need to deal with their London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea if they hope to get their hands on the Frenchman. The latter duo have previously been linked to him, and they have now maintained their interest in him.

Opportunity for Spurs?

The 24-year-old has endured a rough season so far, having failed to showcase the same promise that he had shown last campaign. After all, he has just three goals and an assist to his name this season from 20 Bundesliga appearances.

The Bundesliga star’s injury-ridden season does not help his case either, as he has failed to garner even 1000 minutes of action in the league so far. His side overall has suffered a poor campaign for their standards as well, which has not helped him in any case.

All these reasons, coupled with the Monchengladbach ace’s contract situation, could probably have played a part in his low asking price. That is a great opportunity indeed for us to try our chances to finalise a move for the attacker.

Harry Kane’s future at N17 is far from certain despite Antonio Conte’s arrival back in November. In such a case, we would need to prepare for the worst and plan ahead by shortlisting appropriate replacements.

Thuram, who can play in a wide range of positions in the attack, would be a great choice even if his form this season can raise questions over a move. But we must not forget how Conte was able to help Dejan Kulusevski hit his peak form despite his disappointing spell with Juventus.

Similarly, should Thuram arrive, there is no reason to see why the Italian boss can repeat the same this summer. For a transfer to happen, though, the North London side must beat off the Gunners and the Blues to get their hands on the forward. Only time will tell how this pursuit will pan out in the coming months ahead of this summer.
