Newcastle United re-enter transfer race for Tottenham Hotspur star Cameron Carter-Vickers
According to the US publication SBI (h/t The Scottish Sun), Newcastle United have re-entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Cameron Carter-Vickers in a potential transfer this summer. The defender is currently out on loan at Celtic, where he has earned rave reviews for his excellent displays.
The Scottish outfit have the option to sign Carter-Vickers permanently at the end of this season. It would cost them £6million in transfer fees upfront, but the amount could rise to £10million in total due to add-ons. However, Newcastle are looking to steal a march if an agreement cannot be reached regarding a potential move.
The Magpies are not the only interested parties, as Southampton and Premier League-bound Fulham are also looking to get their hands on the US international. Spurs would be happy with these increased demands as it offers them more leeway to work with if the Celts would not agree to activate the optional clause.
Advantage Spurs?
The 24-year-old was on the back of several failed loan spells before joining the Scottish Premiership club last summer. It seems that he has finally found the right fit as he has been sensational for them throughout this season. After all, he has played a major role in helping them to become top contenders for the league title so far.
As such, one might think that Ange Postecoglou’s side would trigger the clause in the North American’s loan deal. We should not budge from our stance, as his displays have certainly warranted that amount. That is especially the case with other clubs vying to sign him as well this summer.
However, if Celtic do not decide to activate the optional clause, we are handed a major opportunity with the Toons expressing an interest in the Tottenham loanee. They have been financially boosted by the Saudi-backed takeover, which does bode well for us in this case.

It is pretty clear how the North London side should look to do their best to back Antonio Conte in the upcoming transfer window. After all, we cannot stop here at this point, especially after the progress we have made so far following the transfer business in January.
For that to happen, we need to have a decent transfer budget, and Carter-Vicker’s sale would certainly help in that regard. That is why we must look to get the best out of his sale to boost us financially for our summer plans.
