Tottenham Hotspur target RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer amidst Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa transfer interest
According to 90min.com (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are planning to target RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer amidst interest from Arsenal for a potential transfer. He has become one of the most sought after midfielders in world football, having attracted interest from a host of European clubs.
Laimer is currently contracted at Leipzig until 2023, which has resulted in him being linked with a departure. They could decide to sell the midfielder to prevent losing him for free at the end of the next season. Tottenham and the Gunners have shown an interest in signing him, and both clubs have “made checks” for that very reason.
Spurs would also need to deal with competition from several other clubs who are currently vying to get their hands on the Austrian. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa are keen on securing his services ahead of this summer. Ralf Rangnick, meanwhile, has also recommended Laimer to Manchester United for their rebuild.
Spurs to win this race?
It would be a major statement from Fabio Paratici if he could prise away the 24-year-old, especially with the heightened demand for his signature. The central midfielder is one of the best in his position in the Bundesliga, having made a considerable impact by combining his work rate with his tendency to get in on the goal involvements.
That makes the Austrian international a suitable option for Antonio Conte to choose from his midfield. After all, the likes of Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella played a similar role for the boss during their time together at Inter Milan.
Our current options like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks and Rodrigo Bentancur have done quite well under Conte. However, the quartet can use some quality competition, especially when it comes to adding midfielders who can make a contribution in attack as well as defence.
However, finalising a move for the Leipzig ace would be difficult, with several clubs posing trouble for us in this pursuit. That being said, Spurs fans would hope that the prospect of playing under Conte, coupled with being a key part of a new project, would be enough to convince the midfielder.
Mikel Arteta’s side has currently made an effort alongside us, but we must look to get ahead of them in this transfer race. Snapping up a player right under the noses of our bitter North London rivals would just make this deal even sweeter.

Perhaps, we could see that happen considering how our bitter rivals’ attention could be elsewhere at the moment. Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans is their priority target which could give us an edge if they decide to move for him instead of Laimer. Whether that will happen or not, though, remains to be seen.
It is up to our board to back Conte and give him the player that he needs. If the Italian wants Laimer, then Spurs would certainly be wise to back him in that regard- but only time will tell what comes of Laimer’s future this summer.
