Tottenham Hotspur dealt transfer blow as Hull City owner makes Keane Lewis-Potter future admission

Tottenham Hotspur have received a blow after Hull City owner Acun Ilicali revealed his stance regarding a potential transfer of Keane Lewis-Potter after this season. The former has expressed a firm interest in signing the talented young prospect but could fail to get him following this revelation.

Lewis-Potter is subjected to strong interest from West Ham United and Southampton alongside Tottenham. West Ham, in particular, seems to be very keen to sign him as they have already contacted Hull to discuss a potential transfer move. However, the Championship side is looking to ward off competition by proposing a long and significant better contract with improved terms.

Speaking in an interview with HullLive, Ilicali has issued a warning to the interested parties that he would reject even offers worth £30million for the U21 England international. The club chief firmly conveyed that Lewis-Potter is crucial for their plans and would keep hold of him at all costs.

“I have rejected all these offers. Even if they offered me £30m for him, this year I would not sell him because I think his presence is much more important than anything else at the moment. I will not lose him. In my whole life when I have something shining, I do everything to get it. In this case, he’s already with us and nobody can take him from us.”

Should Spurs still target Lewis-Potter?

The Tigers are mounting an attempt to get a promotion to the Premier League in the next campaign and are set to make several signings following an increased transfer budget. If that is the case, it is understandable why Ilicali has sent such a message as achieving promotion would be much more of a lucrative financial boost.

The 21-year-old attacker is certainly capable of helping his side to move up to the English top-flight division. After all, there is an expectation among the Hull fans that he can improve on his 13 goals and four assists tally in the next term. That’s especially impressive considering how he has garnered that output from 47 matches at such a young age.

Spurs could have used the Championship ace in their ranks as they are looking to build a strong project for the future. Signing future superstars in the making would go a long way in helping them achieve that objective, but it appears that Lewis-Potter would not be one of those as of now.

Antonio Conte has helped a lot of youngsters like Achraf Hakimi, Alessandro Bastoni and Oliver Skipp to reach newer heights. It would not be wise to hold it against Conte to do the same with the Tigers attacker if he could have been signed in the future.

But if Hull are not interested in selling Lewis-Potter, we should not waste our time trying to force a move as even £30million is arguably too expensive for someone who is still an uncertain prospect at this moment. Perhaps, it is best to track his progress and see whether his club would change their stance in the future and if their owner’s comments were something to just drive the player’s price upwards.
