Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur rekindle interest to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Filip Kostic
According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent in his weekly newsletter (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have decided to reignite their interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Filip Kostic ahead of the summer transfer window. He has recently won the Europa League title, having beaten Rangers on penalty shootouts.
Kostic has been excellent throughout Frankfurt’s run to European glory, which has seen him get linked with a move to Tottenham. The English side had identified him as a potential option back in January for the wing-back position, but it seems that they have rekindled the pursuit.
Despite nearing the twilight of his playing career, the Serbian international has been getting better with each season. Kostic has arguably been one of the most impressive left wing-backs in Bundesliga over the past few years, and signing him would be a major transfer business done by Spurs.
Kostic to join Spurs?
The 29-year-old has once again been in fine form in this campaign, and his performances played a major role in helping the German side win the EL. He has scored seven goals and assisted 15 times during this period from 43 matches across all competitions.
Adding someone like Kostic into our squad would be a massive boost indeed, especially considering how we have to prepare for the added challenge of Champions League football. While that is not guaranteed just yet, our final match this term is against the struggling Norwich City, which makes us heavy favourites to finish in the top four places.
As such, bolstering the team would be a priority indeed, and perhaps the left wing-back could be one such role. After all, we could use a reliable option in that position who can deliver the goods consistently when called upon by Antonio Conte. Kostic, who is valued at just £12million, would be a great addition to our squad.
Ryan Sessegnon has finally been able to get on the right track in his path to reach his full potential. However, the primary concern lies with his injury troubles, which force the North Londoners to look for reliable options. While Sergio Reguilon has been available most of the time, he has also run into some fitness issues.
Moreover, Reguilon has not taken his game to the next level despite showing initial promise with his display. Moreover, there is always the risk of Real Madrid activating the £43million buy-back option for his services which will expire this summer. With Marcelo nearing the end of his playing career and Ferland Mendy potentially needing a replacement, they may just decide to trigger the clause.

Hence, it is best to assess these setbacks at the earliest and plan to deal with them by shortlisting quality reinforcements like Kostic. That being said, we have to wait and see whether the Bundesliga side would be willing to discuss a move or not, as they have qualified for next season’s CL with their EL win.
