Tottenham Hotspur target Pau Torres on Manchester United centre-back transfer shortlist
According to The Independent, Pau Torres, who is a target for Tottenham Hotspur, is on the transfer shortlist of Manchester United, comprising centre-back options. He had enjoyed another great season for Villarreal in the previous campaign, particularly in their impressive run in the Champions League.
Erik ten Hag is eager to improve the defensive options available to him at Old Trafford at this moment. He especially wants to sign a left-footed centre-back, with Victor Lindelof being the only other left-footer in the Man United team as of now. As such, he has identified Torres as an ideal target who would suit his needs moving forward.
Torres has attracted a host of attention from several clubs ahead of the next term. Tottenham and the Red Devils are two of the interested parties, and a potential bidding war could be on the cards if multiple sides decide to actively pursue him in the summer transfer window.
Spurs to worry about Man Utd?
The Spaniard is also on the Manchester club’s shortlist of options who are targeted to reinforce the central defensive position, in general, this summer. Jurrien Timber from Ajax has been added to the list of choices for ten Hag to choose from as well ahead of the next season.
Centre-half is one of those areas where Fabio Paratici must do his best to back Antonio Conte in the upcoming transfer window. After all, we employ a three-at-the-back system, which in and of itself calls for the need to have a healthy availability of options for the boss to select from.
However, our depth could take a hit this summer with Joe Rodon being in line to leave amidst a lack of regular game time. Japhet Tanganga, meanwhile, has not performed to his best before suffering the long term injury that has kept him on the sidelines even now.
Davinson Sanchez was cast aside by Conte for quite a long time, although his impressive spell at the end of the last term could have given him a lifeline for the future. At the same time, we cannot overlook how Ben Davies was forced to deputise on the left-hand side of the backline since the man in charge took over in November.
Torres, who has been on the rise over the past few seasons, could be perfect for us under the current circumstances. We had a failed attempt to sign the 25-year-old last summer, but perhaps we can finally put that behind by succeeding this time around.

However, ten Hag’s team would cause considerable problems for us, although we may just have the edge over them because of Champions League football. Moreover, we are also in a far better place than them on sporting terms, although they are not the only ones that we need to worry about in this race.
