Tottenham Hotspur have revealed their asking price for Steven Bergwijn

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are keen to secure around €30 million for Steven Bergwijn this summer.

The 24-year-old joined Mourinho’s revolution at Spurs in the January transfer window of 2020 for a reported, you guessed it, €30 million. Basically, Spurs want to recoup their investment or at least the majority of it and in this cut-throat transfer market, they are well within their rights to do so.

Everton are also interested in the dynamic winger but it’s Ajax Amsterdam from Bergwijn’s homeland who lead the race to sign him. Whether a return to the Netherlands is in the offing remains to be seen.

Ajax have been working on the deal since January and have even seen more than one offer rejected by the North Londoners. Both clubs continue to negotiate and an agreement is likely to be established by the end of the transfer window.

Bergwijn’s career at Spurs got off to a dream start. The winger looked explosive and netted a stunning volley on his debut to give Tottenham the lead against reigning champions Manchester City.

Since then, he has struggled to claim a regular spot in the starting XI. Just over two years later, his North London adventure is nearing its end.

IS SPURS’ ASKING PRICE TOO HIGH?

On national duty, Bergwijn has been a different player which is something Tottenham can leverage to justify their asking price. He has scored five goals in his last four appearances for the Netherlands, including a splendid goal from outside the box in the Nations League against Belgium on Friday. The Dutch won by a comprehensive 4-1 margin.

Bergwijn’s priority right now is to fetch regular club football, so that he can make the Netherlands World Cup squad in six months time.

With the FIFA World Cup coming up, Bergwijn is well within his rights to demand a move away. The chances of him making the Oranje squad will get a massive boost as long as he can secure regular playtime elsewhere. As things stand, it is more than a given at N-17.
