Emerson Royal continues to be happy with his life at Tottenham Hotspur despite being subjected to exit talk, according to his agent, who is also his father. The former has endured a difficult time in N17, having joined them after leaving Barcelona only last summer.
Emerson’s future is currently surrounded by uncertainty as he has failed to replicate the quality shown during his days at Real Betis. His decision-making and crossing skills are something that has been heavily criticised at one point during the previous campaign.
In such a case, he has been linked with a return to Spain, with Atletico Madrid being touted as a potential destination. Speaking in an interview with Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), the Brazilian’s representative issued a hint that he may have had a meeting with Diego Simone’s side regarding a potential move.
“I had an informal conversation with Atletico Madrid, but I am not only the agent of Emerson Royal; I have other players, so I can’t confirm this information released in the press.”
Transfer on the cards?
We cannot conclude anything right now since the 23-year-old’s father also has other clients who could have been the subject of the discussion he held with Atletico. In any case, Emerson’s future could potentially become more uncertain, especially when he is being linked with a move to Wanda Metropolitano as of now.
Then again, one could reasonably claim that it would be quite harsh to axe Emerson when he has just completed his first season with us. Players do take time as they are in the process of adapting to their new surroundings, and usually, it takes one full campaign to get into the groove of things.
