Everton table an offer for Tottenham Hotspur star Steven Bergwijn
Everton have offered Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn more money to entice the forward to move to Goodison Park this summer. The Toffees are keen to get the better of Ajax Amsterdam, who are also keen on the Spurs ace.
Everton’s interest in Bergwijn has been concrete for weeks. The Dutch forward also has an offer from Ajax on the table, but the Merseyside club have presented the 24-year-old with better personal terms, according to de Telgraaf (h/t football.london).
Bergwijn has found it difficult at Spurs
Since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in 2020, the winger has had a hard time getting ahead of other players in the squad. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are two forwards that are going to be in the team every week but Bergwijn has at times kept up with the duo.
Lucas Moura and now Dejan Kulusevski are the ones managers have preferred over Bergwijn for the third forward position. But, especially under Antonio Conte, the Dutch national has found it difficult to garner regular playtime.
The forward has made 83 appearances for Spurs in his two and a half years at the club and has recorded 18 goal contributions. However, the 24-year-old has blown hot and cold, lacking consistency.
Although, most fans will agree the Dutchman hasn’t gotten enough opportunities at the club. Last season Bergwijn only played under 900 minutes in all competitions. And with other additions this summer, the 24-year-old’s situation will probably remain the same next season if he stays.
If Bergwijn does leave, the forward will want a place where game time is guaranteed. While Everton are a decent side, Bergwijn might find it easier if he went back to a league where he thrived. Thus, a move to Ajax appears more compelling.
