Josh Keeley speaks out after move to Tottenham Hotspur from St Patrick’s Athletic
Goalkeeper Josh Keely has expressed excitement at joining Tottenham Hotspur from St Patrick’s Athletic. In an interview with his former side on their official club account (h/t football.london), the young goalkeeper makes his feelings known as the 19-year-old is elated to have signed for Spurs.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to be signing for such a big team like Tottenham. It’s a great achievement for me and my family.”
Keeley feels that everyone desires to play in a top team in England. He is proud of being able to achieve that dream at a big club like Spurs.
The Irishman had come for a trial to North London in February and was awestruck by everything. He’s still getting used to the environment around the club which is natural for anyone making such a big step in their career.
“It didn’t even feel real at the start and it still hasn’t hit me yet, but it’s getting over there, the quality, the staff, everyone is so nice and the training ground is great.”
The youngster is looking forward to integrating into the city and the club. The 19-year-old shot-stopper is looking forward to improving his game with the coaches and facilities at Spurs.
A young prospect
Keeley signed for Tottenham’s development squad after a shakeup saw 12 players leave, including five goalkeepers. The Irish goalkeeper has come in to replace those who’ve left.
Keeley won the U15, U17 and U19 titles with the youth squad of his previous club. The 19-year-old also made two appearances for the senior team in his time in Ireland.
The Ireland youth international goalkeeper will be part of Tottenham’s youth setup. Currently, Hugo Lloris is the undisputed starter for the Lilywhites. Fraser Forster signed in the summer as a backup option for Antonio Conte. Pierluigi Gollini has left the club after his loan spell.
Lloris will turn 36 in December. The North London side will soon need to look for a replacement for our captain and while the former Lyon man looks like he can go strong for another year or two, there will come a time when he will have to hang up his gloves.

Currently, Brandon Austin is the third goalkeeper in the Spurs squad. Fans will hope Keeley can establish himself in the youth setup and eventually get a chance to represent the first team.
There isn’t much that our fans know about him yet but that’s one of the reasons he would have joined a club of our stature- to make himself known and take his game to the next level.
