Tottenham Hotspur enquire about Barcelona star Memphis Depay
According to Spanish outlet SPORT via @TransferChanger on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry for Memphis Depay, for whom Barcelona will seek at least £17m in transfer fees.
The Dutchman, who finished his first season as the Catalan club’s leading scorer, might believe that he is an underappreciated asset at FC Barcelona. The 28-year-old managed to score 13 goals from 37 outings in all competitions despite not being consistent during the 2021/22 season.
Depay, though, only agreed to a two-year contract when he joined Barcelona on a Bosman transfer last summer, thus he is now in the penultimate year of his agreement with the club.
Therefore, the Blaugrana might prefer to cash in on him during the summer transfer window, because they still have their sights set on Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and a bunch of other high-profile targets.
It is believed that Spurs have inquired about Depay’s availability during the summer transfer window. Tottenham may have a strong chance of signing the 28-year-old forward who might be allowed to leave for at least £17m.
Tottenham and Barcelona appear to be in conversation about Depay. However, Spurs’ interest is unexpected given that they have already strengthened their assault twice this season by bringing in Richarlison this summer and Dejan Kulusevski in January.
Even if Steven Bergwijn completes his planned transfer to Ajax, Tottenham won’t need to look for an attacking reinforcement during the summer transfer window unless Lucas Moura also leaves the club.

Depay appears to have nevertheless become a target for Tottenham this summer. Spurs may have a difficult time persuading the 28-year-old to quit Barcelona, though, in light of his recent remarks in which he openly said that he intends to stay at Camp Nou past the summer transfer window.
