Paul Robinson believes Antonio Conte would love Kyle Walker-Peters back at Tottenham Hotspur
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Antonio Conte would love to have Kyle Walker-Peters back at the club. Speaking to Football Insider (h/t football.london), the 42-year-old feels the full-back has improved since leaving North London.
“He left Spurs in a similar way and a similar time to Kyle Walker – and they’ve really kicked on now and gone to new heights.”
Robinson further suggested that Walker-Peters is someone the Italian in our dugout would love to have in the squad at Tottenham.
“You’d have to say that Walker-Peters is a player that Conte would love to have back in his ranks now.”
Currently, Spurs have two right-back options and Antonio Conte has had time to test out both of them on the field last season. Emerson Royal started the season off in a disappointing manner but managed to redeem himself by the end of the campaign.
The full-back made 31 appearances for the club in his debut season. Playing higher up the pitch at times, the Brazilian’s quality in the final third shined when we needed it the most in our run to secure the fourth spot in the Premier League.
Matt Doherty is the other option at Conte’s disposal as of now. Doherty featured in just 25 games last season, starting just nine games in the league. The Irish national has had a disappointing spell in North London after impressing many at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Although, there was a period in the middle of the previous campaign where the 30-year-old seemed to have redeemed himself with his performances. Doherty had an impressive run of games under our new boss before an injury curtailed his season.
An alternative to Spence
Tottenham are also in talks to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough. The 21-year-old had an impressive season in the Championship with Nottingham Forest last season.
Walker-Peters left Tottenham in 2020 and joined Southampton. At Spurs, the full-back mustered 24 appearances for the first team in three years. Moving to the Saints and getting regular football has helped in his development.
The 25-year-old has become an important part of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team. Walker-Peters has made 82 appearances for Southampton in his two years and contributed with two goals and seven assists.

If for some reason the deal for Spence collapses, fans will feel bringing back our former player would be a good bet. The 25-year-old has improved his decision-making in the attacking third since leaving. And Conte’s system provides more freedom to full-backs going forward.
