Harry Redknapp feels Tottenham Hotspur new boy Richarlison could pose a problem if not played regularly
Richarlison could be a “problem” at Tottenham Hotspur, according to Harry Redknapp, who feels there isn’t a place for the Brazilian in the North London side’s XI. The former Spurs manager is unsure of the new signing.
Richarlison arrived from Everton in a £60 million deal as Tottenham look to strengthen their squad this summer. The 25-year-old played a key role in the Toffees team. Last season the Brazilian helped the Goodison side avoid relegation.
Speaking to Express Sport, Redknapp feels if Richarlison is left on the bench a lot next season, the Brazilian will be unhappy about it. An angry player in the squad is a problem for any manager.
“Not sure on Richarlison really. Not sure where he’s going to play, if he’s going to play. He looks to me if he doesn’t play he’s not the type of lad that’s going to be a happy bunny. If he’s not in the team I think he will be a problem.”
The 25-year-old is among the string of additions to Antonio Conte’s team. The Brazilian is also known to have a temper, as is evident by his feistiness on the pitch. The club has invested heavily in the squad and there is a lot of depth, especially in the forward areas.
With Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in the squad, a guaranteed place in the XI is difficult to come by. Dejan Kulsevski is another option for Conte to choose. This makes Richarlison’s task even more challenging.
Redknapp is unsure how Conte will line up next season with the players being brought in. The Italian usually prefers to play with three forwards in the side at the start of a game.
“But if he is in the team, he will have to play up there with Son, and Kane in behind. Whether he plays three at the back, two in the midfield, I’m not sure yet.”
“But if he’s not the starting line-up I think he could be a problem at Tottenham.”
Plenty of game time to spare next season
Spurs do have many options and Conte has ensured he has various tools at his disposal with the long season ahead. It remains to be seen how much Richarlison plays, but there’s plenty of game time next season with the number of competitions.
Next season, the Italian will also have the option of using five substitutes. So if a player doesn’t start, there is still a higher chance than in previous seasons to feature in a match.

Richarlison’s versatility also plays in his favour as the Brazilian has the ability to play in any of the forward positions. So fans won’t be worried about a possible mutiny within the squad.
