Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte provides an injury update on Ben Davies
While speaking in the post-match press conference after Spurs’ draw against Sevilla, as quoted by Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has given an update on the injury Ben Davies suffered during the game.
Tottenham have completed the first two contests on their preseason schedule as they look to prepare for the new season. They drew 1-1 with Sevilla on Saturday after defeating Team K League by a score of 6-3.
After receiving an assist from Son Heung-min, Harry Kane scored for the second game in a row before Ivan Rakitic answered back with a goal of his own.
Tottenham will now head back to the British Isles to get ready for their match against Rangers on Saturday.
Conte has stated that although he is proud of the preseason work his team has already accomplished, there is still much work to be done, particularly in maintaining possession and while facing counterattacks.
However, defender Ben Davies’ ankle injury put a negative note on Spurs’ trip to South Korea. The left-back, who under Conte has found fresh life as a centre-back, entered the game against Sevilla at halftime but was unable to finish the second half.
Now the Italian manager has suggested that even though the Welshman experienced pain while departing the field, the injury doesn’t seem serious.
“Yeah, he finished the game with a bit of pain in his ankle. Honestly I hope that’s nothing serious. The rest of the team is okay.”
Davies is a perfect example of the advancements the Spurs have achieved so far under Conte because he has grown to be a key component of Conte’s system throughout this time. In a three-at-the-back formation, the full-back has been changed to the left centre-back position. He has, however, adapted quickly and has been among our top performers lately.
The Welshman has only missed one game since the 52-year-old coach took over, which exemplifies this point nicely. Even though he has previously played in the same position for his national team, the Italian manager has further improved the defender’s playing style to make it more appropriate for the job.

Davies is indeed a crucial member of the Spurs squad and his fitness is vital for our team’s success in the coming campaign. It would have been nice to see him improving his skills during the pre-season. However, currently, he needs to be back up on his feet as soon as possible.
