Yaya Toure and Jermain Defoe set to join Tottenham Hotspur’s coaching staff
According to the Evening Standard, Jermain Defoe and Yaya Toure are set to join Tottenham Hotspur’s coaching staff on a permanent basis ahead of the next season.
The 39-year-old English striker spent two spells with Spurs, scoring 143 goals in 363 appearances for the club. Defoe had a small stint in Rangers’ coaching staff in the past and is now expected to become a part of Spurs academy’s coaching team from August.
Toure was handed a temporary role at the club back in December but that will now be made permanent. Both the Premier League icons will be handed their own age groups to manage at Hotspur way.
The former Ivory Coast international is a legend at Manchester City where he was part of the side that put the Blue side of Manchester on the footballing map. Having also played at Barcelona, his level of experience at the very top level cannot be doubted.
He won three Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy during his playing days.
Wise move by the club
He can offer priceless guidance and advice to the upcoming stars in our academy. One of them would be Harvey White, our U-23 team’s captain who looks to be on the verge of getting some playing time under Antonio Conte in the future.
Defoe, meanwhile, was one of the most feared strikers of his generation. In a career that spanned nearly two decades, he played for teams such as Sunderland, Rangers, and Bournemouth.
Hopefully, he aids in finding the ‘next Harry Kane’, with the soon-to-be 29-year-old not immune to the natural ageing process. Troy Parrott could be a contender, with the striker signing a contract until 2025 and sealing a loan move to Preston North End earlier this week.

The club have apparently helped both Defoe and Toure get their coaching badges. It remains to be seen if they can kick on from here and take over the managerial hot-seat at Spurs sometime in the future.
