Transfer News: Dane Scarlett swaps Tottenham for Portsmouth on a season-long loan
As confirmed by Portsmouth’s official website, Tottenham Hotspur striker Dane Scarlett has joined the Fratton Park outfit ahead of the new season on a loan deal.
He is set to play under manager Danny Crowley in EFL League One, where Pompey currently compete. They finished just 10 points off the play-off spots last season, which is a scalable gap going into the new campaign.
Scarlett signed a new contract with Spurs last summer that keeps him at N17 until the summer of 2026. Still just 18, there is a long way to go in his career and this temporary move would only aid in his development.
Portsmouth’s manager claimed that Scarlett possesses footballing maturity beyond his years and going by his words, Spurs fans rest assured that the teenage striker will be handed opportunities to impress.
“There’s an intelligence beyond his years – both in and out of possession – with the timing of his runs and the movement that allows him to win space behind defenders.”
“Dane has an infectious energy and I know that the staff at both Tottenham and the England set-up think the world of him.”
The England U19 international won the U19 UEFA Euros with the Three Lions this summer, starting in the final against Israel. He made his debut for Spurs in November 2020 in a Europa League game against Ludogorets.
He has a total of 10 senior appearances for us, managing one assist while scoring no goals. Scarlett becomes Tottenham’s second young striker to leave N17 on a loan spell.
