Tottenham considering swap deal involving Giovani Lo Celso and Nicolo Zaniolo
According to Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb (h/t Football. London), Tottenham are considering offering Argentinian midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in a swap deal to AS Roma in their bid to sign talented Italian attacker Nicolo Zaniolo.
Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the exciting Italian forward and are looking to snap him up this summer. However, a move for the Roma man is likely to be far from straightforward.
Zaniolo is one of Roma’s most impressive players and had a great season under Jose Mourinho last time around. The 23-year-old joined the Italian giants from Inter in 2018 and has since then gone on to become one of the best young players in Italy.
Things have not always been easy for Zaniolo with the Italian forward going through an injury hell not so long ago. The 23-year-old ruptured the ACL on his right knee and was ruled out for several months only to return and rupture the ACL on his left knee shortly after.
It is not an easy task to recover from two major career-threatening injuries back to back and this is just an example of the kind of will and determination the winger possesses and why he is rated so highly.
This season, under Jose Mourinho, Zaniolo was one of the key figures of the UECL winning campaign alongside Tammy Abraham. He played 42 times for the Serie A giants scoring eight goals and providing nine assists across all competitions.
One of the Italian’s most unique qualities is his ability to play in multiple positions on a football pitch. The 23-year-old can play as a right-winger, centre-forward and even as an attacking midfielder.
Mourinho seems to be building an exciting project at Roma signing the likes of Paulo Dybala and it seems unlikely that the Portuguese tactician will want to part ways with a player of Zaniolo’s ability.

The Italian himself might not want to leave Italy given the opportunity to be part of an exciting project under a manager like Mourinho. This could turn out to be a very tough negotiation for Spurs.
Zaniolo no doubt will be a great addition to Spurs. However, it seems like a very tough transfer to pull off.
