Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon says he knows Chelsea star Reece James’ ‘weaknesses’
Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon and Chelsea’s Reece James are two of the most exciting English talents in recent years. They come face-to-face with each other later today at Stamford Bridge.
Sessegnon came through the academy at Fulham before he made his name at Spurs and speaking in an interview before the game (h/t the Guardian), he revealed his dislike towards the Blues.
“Coming through at Fulham it’s in your brain to dislike Chelsea so this game is extra-special for me.”
The 22-year-old left-wing-back is good friends with James. The two of them share a close relationship off the pitch and were even part of the U17 England team that won the UEFA European Championship in 2017.
James is almost certain to start down the right-hand side of Chelsea’s defence. His friend Sessegnon, however, is likely to alert some of his Spurs teammates of the 22-year-old Chelsea star’s apparent weaknesses.
“I think I know his [Reece James] weaknesses as well but I won’t say too much now. He’s a great player, what he’s done for Chelsea and England has been very good, so you can always look at that and it inspires you.”
If that really is the case, then perhaps he can give a heads up to Son Heung-min, who is irreplaceable down the left side of Antonio Conte’s attack. Sessegnon, if he starts, will also come up against James down that flank.
He showed his attacking capabilities against Southampton when he was inside the box to head home Dejan Kulusevski’s cross to equalise. Spurs went on to win that by a 4-1 margin last weekend.
Conte’s team are a changed side but that change is unlikely to be evident so soon. The Italian manager started none of his six new signings last game and it won’t be a surprise if that move is repeated today.

However, one can expect Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, and Richarlison to play some part in the game today. With the five substitution rule, that is almost a given, in all honesty.
